Blooks #3

May 30th, 2007

[First post on Blooks]      [Second post]

The last time I wrote about blooks, I gave you some links so you could take a look at the actual blogs that were turned into books. I also pointed you in the direction of a publisher and two software companies that are offering free software to backup and reorder your blog for blooking.

Show Me the Money

Today I thought we’d take a look at blooks that have made some money for their authors. Here’s a list gleaned from an article by Rachel Deahl (The Book Standard, (2 Aug 2005):

  • Dana Vachon: Riverhead has just signed investment-banker blogger “D-Nasty” to a two-book deal that the media website Gawker reported was worth $650,000.
  • Ana Marie Cox: jackpot, as reported by the New York Post, totaled $275,000
  • Jessica Cutler: won a six-figure deal from Hyperion
  • Stephanie Klein: enjoying the fruits of her digital labor with an enviable six-figure, two-book deal.

Blookworthy Blogs

So what are you blogging about? Anything worth saving and trying to sell? Think all the good ideas are already gone? Maybe you should consider this. According to Wikipedia,

“If you take forums in to consideration as well, Maroc.NL would have written the first blook in the fall of 2001. The book can be found on here and here. The book “Maroc.nl: digitaal lief en leed van Marokkaanse jongeren” (translation: Maroc.nl: digital affections of Moroccan youth) describes the everyday questions of Moroccan youth living in the Netherlands as they were collected from the website’s forums.”

Hmm, one more time I look pretty smart. I’ve been stealing ideas for blog posts off the Chicago Writers Association forum practically since this blog started :-)
